It was believed that about 800,000 people died due to the genocide, only 130,000 Tutsis survived the massacre. 500,000 Tutsis died in the genocide, which was 3/4th of the total population of Tutsis. The Rwandan government found that 1,074,017 people, which was about 1/7th of the total population actually died. The Tutsis took up about 94% of the total number of victims murdered during the course of the genocide. 120,000 people were jailed due to their involvement in the genocide, but thousands died because of the terrible conditions of the jail in which they were being held. In April 2000 2,500 people were tried and 300 of them received death sentences. (Watch)
